Selling your internet data

The US Government recently passed a law that lets Internet Service Providers (ISP) to sell your data to anyone they want without your permission. This in my opinion breaks basic privacy. ISPs had to originally ask your permission to sell your data, now they do it for free. Some companies have a opt out fee, where you pay a certain amount of money to "opt out" of them selling your data. This is at its core, a scam. Why should you have ot pay to have someone else sell your data? My stance on this issue is that it breaks privacy in a lot of ways. There are ways around this issue, such as using a VPN. This ensures that your data stays with you. Some services are paid and some are free.

Social Media Comparison

Two major brands that use facebook and twitter are Nike and Taco Bell.
We will start off with Nike.  Their facebook page has 27.8 million likes. They are a brand that is known world wide. People all over the world know of and wear nike apparel. They use social media not just to sell their products but mostly to promote it and show it off. They rarely try to sell you the product, but more try to embed the new products in your head. They will post about how major athletes use their new shoes, then making you want to try them out as well. This subtle advertising is how they made it big compared to brands who straight out sell on their pages. Nikes twitter is full of inspirational material. They are trending out of a male audience into a more female and even more religious audience. They have released sportswear for muslim women. This big step into a multicultural brand is huge for them. This promotes not only top level athletes and men, but everyone to strive to be their best.

Next is Taco Bell. While they are basically the opposite of Nike in terms of what they promote, they are a successful brand nonetheless. With 10.4 millions facebook likes and 2 million followers on twitter, they are no stranger to high school and college kids in America. They tend to appeal to a more young audience than an older audience. This is due to it being a fast food chain. But regardless of demographic, they are very involved in the communities around America. They have scholarships and help out local teams and businesses. They also have The Taco Bell Foundation, which is a public charity established in 1992 to improve the lives of young people. They use their social media outlets to promote everything they do. They praise those who do well, and are constantly interacting with people on their twitter with clever humor and jokes.

Both brands are doing a very good job keeping people interested in their brand through social media. Everyone is on Facebook or twitter. There is no way to avoid seeing companies trying their best to promote their brand. They are doing well with every demographic, and its nice to see it all come together.
